History of Smile Charity South Sudan(SCSS)

Smile Charity South Sudan (SCSS) was established in 2023 by a group of committed Christian youths who were deeply moved by the plight and humanitarian needs of forcibly displaced Sudanese refugees, returnees, and vulnerable South Sudanese populations affected by conflicts, violence, and natural disasters. As a result, the founders came together with a common vision of providing hope, dignity, and humanitarian support to the displaced populations. Smile Charity South Sudan (SCSS) was initially established with a primary focus on providing humanitarian support, including food, non-food items, and basic needs, to populations in need. The founders mobilized volunteers, community leaders, and faith-based organizations to provide humanitarian support, especially to vulnerable populations, including women, children, the elderly, and persons with disabilities. However, as the needs of the community changed, SCSS has since expanded its activities beyond humanitarian relief support to include a range of integrated and multi-sectoral development programs. The organization has since designed a range of initiatives that will provide support for the long-term recovery, building resilience, and sustainable community empowerment. These include livelihoods support, education, protection, peacebuilding, health awareness, and climate resilience programming. SCSS uses a community-driven approach. The organization works hand-in-hand with various actors at both the national and international levels. This ensures the enhancement of impact and sustainability of its activities. Through this, SCSS continues to promote dignity, self-reliance, and well-being of vulnerable people in South Sudan.
